Home Sweet Home With Bob Burnquist

Bob’s Idea of a Homey Touch, a Sixty-Foot Tall Ramp
By Todd Seligman

It is amazing how something as simple as trading a friend a soccer-ball for a skateboard can change the entire direction of a person’s life. For Bob Burnquist that is exactly what happened.

Standing atop his brand new backyard mega-ramp, Bob must chuckle to himself as he thinks of the path that has brought him to this point in his life.

It’s as unlikely a story as one could ever imagine: a young boy in Sao Paulo, Brazil trades a friend a soccer-ball for a skateboard and falls in love with riding the concrete pools that, at that time, were unique to Brazil. And so it came to pass that this lanky young skateboarder became a Brazilian phenom and made his way to the USA. In time, he met his future wife, also a skateboarder, and the two settled into the world capital of professional skating – San Diego, CA – where they bought a house with enough land to build the ramps of his dreams, including one of the largest halfpipes in the world, a full-loop, a full-pipe and now a ten story tall mega-ramp!

Yes kids, dreams really can come true.

If Bob were not such a great competitor, he might never leave his house. But, a great competitor he is. He has won every major title there is to win and has no intention of slowing down.

Bob Burnquist’s backyard is legendary. Stepping out of his home, the ramps rise from a gentle slope like a magical kingdom of skateboarding. It is so unreal that if a light mist were to surround the majestic ramps, which spread out as far as your eyes can see, you would swear it was a dream. But Bob Burnquist is in the business of making his dreams reality.

In Bob’s reality he is more competitive with himself than any other skateboarder, and his amazing accomplishments like jumping the gap at the top of his full-loop (switch no less) or doing a grind off a mega-rail as he BASE jumps into the Grand Canyon are his testament!

With the construction of his new Mega-Ramp, Bob has raised the bar once again . . . For himself as well as skateboarding. There is no doubt that Bob will revolutionize mega-ramp skating the same way he has with every other aspect of his skating.

There is no place that Bob is more comfortable than on the halfpipe, where he is renown for his mastery of switch stance (skating in the opposite stance as is natural) and his uncanny ability to successfully pull off tricks by the slimmest of margins that other skaters can’t conceive.

Bob will be one of the skateboarders dropping in to the halfpipe at the LG Action Sports World Championships at the Reunion Arena in Dallas on Oct 27-29.
