The LG Action Sports World Tour Came to Berlin
The LG Action Sports World Tour Came to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin August 26 & 27
The LG Action Sports World Tour, the world's only global competition series, was staged at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin for its third European event of 2006.
More than one hundred of the world's best skateboarders, BMX riders and inline skaters competed for $130,000 in cash and prizes as well as valuable ranking points toward qualifying into the LG Action Sports World Championships. The event in Berlin is part of the only global competition circuit in action sports and includes tour stops in seven countries, culminating in the World Championships in Dallas, Texas this October.
The LG Action Sports World Tour partnered with OFFPOP! Music Day, a music celebration that brought an international club culture into the open air. OFFPOP! Music Day featured Europe's largest outdoor dance floor across 20 stages, and combined with the LG Action Sports World Tour to create an epic street festival in Berlin's most famous location.
Besides the top pros in action sports, the event also included mind-boggling freestyle motocross exhibitions and a host of interactive fan exhibits, including break-dancing competitions, athlete autograph sessions, video games, street artists and tons of prize giveaways.
Some of the top pros who attended in this international field of talent include: Simon Tabron (UK), Eito Yasutoko (JAP), Takeshi Yasutoko (JAP), Mathias Ringstrom (SWE), Anthony Furlong (USA), John Parker (USA), Jake Brown (AUS), Taig Khris (FRA), Fabiola da Silva (BRA), Nel Martin (ESP), Shane Yost (TAS), Dave Dillewaard (AUS), Steven McCann (AUS) and World Champions, Tobias Wicke and Bruno Lowe from Germany. The Brandenburg Gate is a triumphal arch and the symbol of Berlin, Germany. It is the only remaining gate of a series through which one formerly entered Berlin. On June 12, 1987, U.S. President Ronald Reagan delivered a speech ("Tear down this wall") to the people of West Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate, yet it was also audible on the East Berlin side of the Wall. When the Berlin Wall finally fell in 1989, the gate symbolized freedom and the unity of the city.
