Sleiman Slays in Berlin

Skateboarding Street Finals Recap
By Eric Kirkwood

Fabio Sleiman brought the speed, style and sheer determination to win in today’s skateboarding street finals.

The contest brought out some of Germany’s premier street rippers as well as Kazakhstan’s Alex Mizurov and Tel Aviv, Israel’s own Avi Luzia.

Avi and Alex went toe-to-toe, each with their own brand of street prowess. Avi’s second effort put him in contention for one of the top seats with a solid run that included some nice grind maneuvers, a big 50/50 down the long box and a textbook 360 flip over the funbox.

Alex started his run with a nollie into one of the euro-gaps, kickflips and tre flips and assorted grinds. In the end, a tie between Avi and Alex was broken by second runs . . . Alex Mizurov 3rd, Avi Luzia 4th . Good battle, boys.

Andreas Weigert of Beidefield, Germany started the whole contest off with what would become the run to beat. Andreas’ run included a drop in to fatty stalefish on the big quarter-pipe, a five-foot-plus frontside tailslide backside revert on the opposing quarter pipe and an absolutely giant kickflip indy grab to fakie.

Only one man rose to a higher mark: Fabio Sleiman of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Fabio came out full tilt, a trait that he is well known for and flew the course like a rabid meerkat. He ollied and ollie grabbed over large channels and boxes, put together a combination of 50/50 grinds down the small ledge to Backside 5-0 down the big ledge and kept full speed throughout. When the run was over - sound barrier broken, the judges wiped the dribble of blood from their ears and awarded him the win.

Thanks to all involved and see you in Paris!
